The Great Ziegfeld
MGM Pictures
Released: April 8, 1936
Runtime: 176 minutes
Allan is not credited in this film or even present in this film except through his voice. He dubbed the song, “A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody” for singer Dennis Morgan, who was present in the film (and going by his real name, Stanely Morner). One reason (although not certain) for this dubbing was that Dennis Morgan had a cold and could not sing.
This film is a biography of Flo Ziegfeld and his life as a stage show producer. He first marries French star Anna Held but they drift apart and he then marries Billie Burke. Spectacular musical numbers and wonderful supporting actors make this an entertaining film.
